The world’s most glamorous book ‘dr.a.g.’, for dressed as girl, returns. After losing its publisher to bankruptcy halfway through its initial release, the book has been fortified with 20 added pages and is now the first in a series from new imprint Bookthefilm Publishing. Christopher Logan gave me some insight to share with you regarding this difficult, yet rewarding publishing journey in creating a beautiful book and the start up Bookthefilm Publishing in celebrating the arts:
Q. Now that you’ve finished the project, can you give me some insight as to what your plans are now?
CL. There has been a bit of an evolution of the project. The dr.a.g. book is still a fundraiser for a film on drag, but it’s also become the first book from my new publishing imprint: Bookthefilm Publishing We’ll be producing a series of books celebrating the arts. Following the ‘bookthefilm edition’ of dr.a.g., which includes all 160-pages of the original edition plus an additional 20-pages of new faces and photos, will be Burlesque, celebrating the top Burlesque entertainers.
Our hope is to create a book company that funds our film projects.
Q. Are you any closer to production?
CL. Right now I’m knee-deep, building the foundation: the book company. Once we’re off and running, we’ll have a better idea time-wise of when the first film venture will fall into place.
Q. Was there a time you thought about completely giving it all up? If so, what or who encouraged you to carry on?
CL. When we lost our original publisher to bankruptcy, there was a few moments of not knowing what to do. But that cleared up by taking the dr.a.g book into the corner of my room and pouring through it. I reconnected with the great book we’d put together, and knew I had to find a way to help it fly. Then after a few fundraisers, and a not-too-successful campaign online…I ended up going old school, and getting a business loan to finance the project. Seems like the book has grown up and is taking me along with it. 😉
Bookthfilm is proud to present top drag artists from around the globe. Featuring headliners from the Vegas Strip (Frank Marino, Larry Edwards, Mr.Kenneth Blake), New York Icons (Lady Bunny, Joey Arias, Charles Busch), cast that appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race (Nina Flowers, Bebe Zahara Benet, Ongina, Shannel, Yara Sofia, Courtney Act) and drag legends like Miss Coco Peru, Jimmy James and Jim Bailey.
The book is a true celebration of the art of drag. A positive and uplifting book that shows how diverse this communtiy can be.
The make up alone will blow your mind, nevermind the outfits, hair, and the outrageous personalities that fly off the page. In a digital age, this is a book that needs to be seen. These are high quality photographs that meld with the printed page to create a truly beautiful book.
At the end of the day, ‘dr.a.g.’ does what a good coffee table book should do: Spark Conversation.
Available in stores throughout the US and Canada. European release this October.
