Painting an Escape | Landscapes of the Mind

Painting an Escape | Landscapes of the Mind,  Art by Nancy Rishoff.

My work is about Landscapes. The landscapes typically include water and mountains. Painting for me is an escape into another place. I prefer to let my imagination fill in the blanks.

This process is my calm, a way to unwind or in other words to take a vacation in my day. I paint landscapes, because I love the beauty of Western Montana. The places I choose to paint are often inspired by my childhood memories or simply by my passion to capture the scene.

When the weather cooperates, I prefer to do most of my painting outside. Working outdoors helps me feel one with nature and the changing colors are my best inspiration. I have recently fallen back in love with water colors.

When viewing my paintings, I hope others feel as I do and as Bob Ross would say, “They’re no mistakes, just happy endings.”
