Nager – Designs by Nic Hyl

Nager By Nic Hyl-small

Nager, designs by  Nic Hyl, is a women’s  swim brand solely created by Nicole Hylton. The name Nager (pronounced Na-Jay), is French for swim, and for now, Nic Hyl’s design focus is on swim wear and cover-ups.

I asked Nic to relay to me a story that not many people know about her.  Nic Hyl’s story made me think of Madonna’s start-up story when Madonna braved New York, by herself, with $35 dollars in her pocket. Nic’s story is somewhat similar.

Four years ago, Nic sold everything she had at the time and moved to New York City with $300 in her purse and five suit cases. Fortunately, she had a job lined up as an apprentice with Norma Kamali,  and her work in the fashion industry 1

Today, Nic states, ” I have a great job with Ralph Lauren working in International Production, and I am able to work on my dreams as a result of what I am exposed to everyday.”

Nic treats all her fashion jobs as paid intern-ships because she learns so much from them.  She goes on further stating, “I believe that if one never gives up, their dreams will come true.  I love what I do, and I’m excited everyday to learn more about my craft.”

photo 2Nager by Nic Hyl is a sole proprietorship that was founded last year in New York City. It’s been slow to start, but has been able to generate some buzz. In an effort to get it to the next level Nic found a boutique PR firm to work with, 8 AM Public Relations, (based in Atlanta, GA- so she can escape the astronomical NYC prices). However, she still needs funding to prepare for marketing and distribution.
