FYSWebBannerIndie bands tour across the US raising money for hospice, titled “Free Your Spirit”, it’s music for your soul and music for a cause.   Indie bands, Shakewell and Mile 5, started the tour off in Missoula with out-of-state bands including; The Will Arrington Band, The Luke Williams Band, and Canvas People from San Marcos, TX.  In addition, musician Corey TutT, from New York City will perform in support of this project.

Missoula Opening – Free Your Spirit

Free Your Spirit Music CD Project Manager Jacqueline Reber said, “The Missoula show was such a success! We had about 400-500 people in attendance throughout the night and we raised over $1,000 for charity. We hope to keep this going and continue to spread the word about end of life issues through music.”  Jacqueline tells me that Shakewell isn’t touring for this music project yet, however, they might perform shows with the Free Your Spirit tour later in the year.

The person who came up with this idea is Autumn Spence from Bend, Oregon.  She approached Jacqueline and asked, “if  a young college student could help make this dream into a reality.” Autumn and Jacqueline  enlisted musicians that they had connections to, and asked them to donate a song or multiple songs to the CD. After they landed the songs, the project took off.  Cove Jasmin, the lead singer of Shakewell, Valley Lopez, the drummer and singer from Mile 5, and Jacqueline “volunteered multiple hours to make this into a real thing.”

Free Your Spirit booked three shows in Austin, TX  for November 1st at the Perish Underground, November 2nd at Poodie’s Hilltop in Spicewood, and November 3rd at the Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcus.  They have shows planned in Berkley. The performance on November 14th is for the National Hospice Foundation, and the November 16th gig will be more of a music-only show in San Francisco.  After those two shows, Free Your Spirit plans on booking a show in New York with Corey TuT. (Detailed information on the shows listed below.)

Meet the Bands

TutChasingDownTheBedlamCorey TuT

Corey TuT has been writing, recording and playing his unique brand of Rock and Roll in and around New York City for well over a decade. Along the way he has also worked with artists as diverse as Ad Rock from the Beastie Boys, NYC techno/ house sensations The Ones and legendary New York producers Super Buddha (Blondie, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters). His songs have been used in several independent films and on network programs on The CW, NBC Sports and The NFL. TuT’s voice can also be heard in commercials for Toyota, Diet Pepsi, Ford and many others. Citing influences ranging from Pink Floyd to Peaches and The Rolling Stones to Radiohead, Corey TuT’s sound is as classic as it is modern with a love for timeless song craftsmanship, mountains of big guitars and soaring vocals.

On his latest self-produced album Chasing Down The Bedlam, TuT found himself pushing the boundaries of his sound adding layers of neo-New Wave synths and touches of psychedelic atmospheric effects to his punchy pop/ rock songs. Featured YouTube video by Corey TuT, Hangman.

Mile 5

Combining the harmonic sensibilities of R&B, southern rock, and pop with sophisticated lyrical sensibilities, Mile 5 is re-imagining the role of the traditional four piece rock band. With a singing guitar, a thundering rhythm section, and hair-raising, tear-jerking vocals, the young band epitomizes what live music is all about: energy, emotion, and passion. The band gracefully walks the tightrope between tradition and innovation and defines itself with meticulously crafted original tunes and an electrifying live performance featuring a wide array of dance inducing covers. Mile 5 is the collective effort of Cove Jasmin, Valley Lopez, and brothers Emmet and Sam Ore; all musicians based out of Missoula, Montana.

Mile 5: does not have any additional websites because it was formed for this project.

Canvas PeopleCanvasPeople

Canvas People is an indie-rock/indie-folk musical outfit based out of San Marcos, TX. Infusing traditional folk/rock-inspired songs with a blend of tasteful guitar licks, and velvety three part harmonies, Canvas People produces a very honest, sophisticated sound.

The group consists of Kyle-Matthew Taylor on vocals/rhythm guitar, Wes Maxwell on lead guitar/backing vocals, and Luke Williams on bass guitar/backing vocals.

All in search of pursuing musical careers in the Texas Hill Country’s well-known music scene, the three met each other at Cheatham Street Warehouse’s infamous songwriter’s circle and realized their common passions. Upon meeting, the three started playing gigs around the Texas Hill Country area, and established a local name for themselves.

Canvas People currently has a 3-song EP available on iTunes, Spotify, and SoundCloud, and are also working on the completion of their very first full-length LP, set for release in January 2014.

WillArrington_2The Will Arrington Band

The Will Arrington Band is a breath of fresh air to the Texas Country Music scene. With great original songs and a hipper sound to traditional Country they really get the crowd moving from the very first song. Will connects to the audience from the very beginning with his lyrics that seem to reflect all their own experiences. Not just the usual trains, loving & leaving. Original tunes run the gamut from Texas country Miles Left to Go, bluesy Black Stiletto to Wills’ arrangement of a high speed version of Long Black Veil. Come Home  on the Free  Your Sprit Cd shows one more side to the versatile Will Arrington Band: Will Arrington, Luke Williams, Daniel Head & Wes Maxwell all based in San Marcos, Texas.
