Be You

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” – Yves Saint Laurent

Style can mean a lot of things. To some, it is the difference between good taste and bad. To others it is a form of self expression and helps say things to the world that can’t be heard. Life is a sensory experience and we don’t just hear things, taste things, or smell things, we also see them. Style is personal, fulfilling, and important. It influences our mood, how people relate to us and in some cases how we get by from day to day. These are the reasons that I am not going to talk to you about fashion. To me, fashion and style are two very different entities as described by famed designer Yves Saint Laurent. Fashion can limited, inaccessible, and most disastrously, fleeting. Trust that there is a reason the term fashion victim exists. We allow ourselves to become enslaved by fashion, trend, and fad and when we try too hard to impress the superficial world, we alienate what is most important, our sense of self. Don’t get me wrong, I love fashion as much as the next person with a finger on the pulse of what’s coming down the pike. At it’s best, the world of high fashion offers a new layer to the art world and a jumping off point for style inspiration. But the beauty of self confidence and great style comes from balancing what is new and exciting with what works for us and portrays a true image of who we are. I look forward to sharing some style ideas with you as well as featuring real people with great personal style. Finding yourself and expressing it through clothes that work in your daily life, whether you consider yourself a rock goddess, bohemian bombshell, pin-up princess, or cool casual, is the key to living an indie it lifestyle.
